A representative from the Innovation and Information Center of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan participated in the 10th session of the Lisbon Convention Committee on the recognition of higher education qualifications. The session took place on October 22, 2025, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, with the support of UNESCO and the Council of Europe, as reported by the Ministry of Education’s website.

The Lisbon Convention Committee is the main body responsible for ensuring fair and transparent recognition of diplomas, degrees, and periods of study between the participating countries. The Convention, adopted in 1997, serves as the primary legal instrument in the European region to promote academic and labor mobility for students and graduates.

During the session, participants discussed several key issues. Delegates reviewed the adoption of the updated Code of Good Practice in Transnational Education. Special attention was given to the prospects and risks of applying artificial intelligence for automating qualification recognition procedures and verifying the authenticity of educational documents.

The Committee also approved a new work plan for 2025-2028, reviewed a report on the application of the European Qualifications Passport for Refugees, and held elections for new members of the Bureau — the Committee’s governing body.
