Turkmenistan Emerges as Top Importer of Onions from Neighboring Uzbekistan
17 Jun. 05:16Turkmenistan has secured the top position as the leading importer of onions from neighboring Uzbekistan, according to the latest report by the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan. The official data reveals that during the first four months of 2026 (January–April), Uzbekistan exported 8.7 thousand tons of onions to the Turkmen market. Consequently, Turkmenistan accounted for over 33% of Uzbekistan's total onion exports during this period.
Russia followed closely in second place on the list, purchasing 8.4 thousand tons, while Iraq ranked third with an import volume of 5.3 thousand tons. During the evaluated four-month timeframe, Uzbekistan's global onion exports reached a total volume of 26.2 thousand tons, generating an aggregate value of 5.8 million USD. The figures underscore the vibrant cross-border agricultural trade and supply-chain integration within Central Asia.
