On April 22, the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, J. Gurbangeldiýew, met with the Ambassador of Malaysia, Mohd Suhaimi Bin Ahmad Tajuddin, and representatives from Petronas Carigali (Turkmenistan). The primary focus of the discussion was the enhancement of cooperation in training high-level specialists for the oil and gas industry. Both parties explored potential partnerships between Turkmen technical vocational schools and universities and the various educational and research facilities operated by Petronas.

With operations in over 100 countries, Petronas representatives emphasized that their commitment to partner nations extends beyond natural resource extraction to the development of human capital. During the meeting, detailed information was provided regarding the company’s extensive educational programs, which include vocational-technical training and specialized short-term professional development courses designed to meet the evolving needs of the energy market.

Specific collaboration opportunities were discussed with institutions such as the Petronas University of Technology, the Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM), and the Petronas Leadership Centre. The parties also looked into engaging with Yayasan Petronas and the Petrosains science discovery center. These partnerships are intended to provide Turkmen educators and students with direct access to global academic standards, advanced leadership training, and cutting-edge industrial expertise.

Turkmenistan and Petronas have shared a long-standing and productive relationship in the field of education. Through Petronas-funded scholarships, Turkmen students regularly pursue higher education in Malaysia. Furthermore, under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, annual internships and faculty development programs at the Petronas University of Technology continue to strengthen the professional qualifications of the domestic energy workforce.
