Turkmenistan and Georgia Discuss Development of Caspian — Black Sea Transport Corridors
01 Apr. 09:17On March 31, a Turkmen delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan N. Atagulyyev arrived in the Georgian port of Poti for an official visit. The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials, including Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development T. Ioseliani, leadership from "Georgian Railway" JSC, and representatives from the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia. The primary focus of the talks was the strategic expansion of transport and logistics cooperation.
Both sides emphasized that transport connectivity remains the cornerstone of bilateral relations. The discussions centered on several major international initiatives:
• Caspian Sea — Black Sea Corridor: Enhancing the transit route connecting Central Asia to Europe via the two seas.
• Lapis Lazuli Corridor: Developing the infrastructure for the route linking Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to Georgia and Turkey.
• "Green Ports" Project: Implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies in port management.
The participants explored practical steps to increase cargo turnover, including the expansion of multimodal logistics solutions and the adoption of new technologies to accelerate transit processing. A key topic was the further integration of the ports of Turkmenbashi and Poti into "East — West" international corridors. Opportunities for joint investment projects and the exchange of expertise in terminal management were also extensively discussed.
Following the negotiations, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to creating a resilient logistics chain that will bolster regional economic growth. At the conclusion of the visit, the Turkmen delegation toured the existing infrastructure and future development sites of the Poti and Anaklia ports. This partnership marks a significant move toward establishing a seamless and efficient transport link between the Caspian and Black Sea regions.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
