Turkmenistan and China launch a major 10 billion cubic meter gas infrastructure project
18 Apr. 03:30Yesterday marked the official commencement of the fourth phase of development at the "Galkynysh" gas field, one of the world's largest energy reserves. The cornerstone was laid for a massive processing facility designed to prepare 10 billion cubic meters of commercial gas annually. The ceremony was attended by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Ding Xuexiang, the First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, highlighting the geopolitical weight of this cooperation.
The comprehensive project involves more than just processing capacities; it encompasses the drilling of production wells, the installation of gas collection systems, and the construction of advanced treatment plants. Furthermore, the plan includes the development of external pipeline networks and essential social infrastructure, such as residential buildings for employees. This multi-layered development ensures that the extraction and processing of natural resources are supported by a modern and sustainable technical framework.
During the event, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty emphasized that the partnership between Ashgabat and Beijing serves as a catalyst for economic stability across the entire Central Asian region. Beyond strengthening energy ties, the project is set to generate 1,041 new jobs, providing a significant boost to the domestic labor market. This initiative reflects a shared vision for long-term industrial growth and the efficient utilization of Turkmenistan's vast natural wealth.
Following the formal groundbreaking ceremony, a celebratory traditional meal (sadaka) was held to honor the start of this historic venture. The "Galkynysh" field remains a central pillar of Turkmenistan's energy strategy and its status as a leading global supplier. This new expansion phase reinforces the strategic alliance with China and secures a reliable supply of natural gas to international markets for years to come.
