Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan Reaffirm Diplomatic Cooperation Amid Regional Tensions

Foreign Ministers Rashid Meredov and Jeyhun Bayramov held a high-level telephone consultation to address the shifting security landscape in the Near and Middle East. The top diplomats underscored that global conflicts must be resolved through peaceful dialogue and political mediation, strictly adhering to international legal frameworks.

During the exchange, the ministers discussed recent aerial strikes targeting Azerbaijan, emphasizing that violations of national sovereignty—a core principle of the UN Charter—are unacceptable. The conversation also covered urgent humanitarian issues stemming from the regional situation, highlighting the shared commitment of Ashgabat and Baku to maintaining stability and upholding sovereign integrity in the face of modern challenges.

The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn. Bhd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance cooperation in education and vocational training. The signing meeting involved Minister of Education J. Gurbangeldiyev, Malaysian Ambassador Mohd Suhaimi bin Ahmad Tajuddin, and PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) CEO Ismadi bin Ismail.

The agreement coincides with the 30th anniversary of PETRONAS's operations in Turkmenistan's oil and gas sector. Discussions focused on qualifying skilled workforce candidates for the energy industry, extending scholarship opportunities for Turkmen students at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, and advancing professional development programs.

To date, Turkmenistan and Malaysia have established nearly 20 educational agreements. During the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Turkmenistan, three additional agreements were finalized between local universities and Universiti Tenaga Nasional to support academic mobility and exchange initiatives.
