Turkmenistan Aims to Expand Gas Exports: TAPI and Decarbonization in Focus at OGT-2025
The second session of the OGT-2025 International Conference featured a strategic discussion titled “The Growing Importance of Turkmen Natural Gas: Expanding Exports and Supporting the Energy Transition.”
As the global shift toward cleaner energy sources accelerates, natural gas continues to play a crucial role as a reliable and lower-emission fuel. With some of the world’s largest gas reserves, Turkmenistan is well positioned to meet increasing demand in both traditional and emerging markets.
The session centered on Turkmenistan’s strategic vision for significantly expanding its gas exports. Participants discussed progress on the large-scale TAPI (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India) pipeline project and other cross-border infrastructure initiatives aimed at diversifying gas supply routes to South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Government representatives, international experts, and leading industry figures attended the meeting. They explored how expanding Turkmen gas exports could simultaneously support the country’s sustainable economic growth and contribute to the decarbonization goals of its partners.
Key discussion points included:
• Current dynamics and growth prospects in existing export markets;
• Strategic export corridors: progress on TAPI and other cross-border initiatives;
• Overcoming challenges and attracting investment in large-scale infrastructure projects;
• Emerging directions in the energy transition and the evolving role of natural gas.
