Turkmen Writer Receives Yunus Emre Award at International Literature Festival in Gaziantep
09 May. 15:02The 5th Turkic World Literature and Book Festival recently concluded in Gaziantep, Turkey, organized by the International Union of Turkic Writers under the auspices of TÜRKSOY. The event drew a prestigious gathering of scholars, poets, and prose writers from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Cyprus, and several other nations. The festival focused on celebrating shared literary heritage and fostering cultural exchange among Turkic-speaking peoples.
Turkmenistan was represented at the forum by writer Maksat Meredow, who attended as part of an official visit to Gaziantep. His participation highlighted the contemporary literary achievements of Turkmenistan and provided a platform to share the nation's rich narrative traditions with a diverse international audience. Discussions during the festival touched upon the evolution of modern prose and the future of cross-border literary collaborations.
Following the festival's evaluations, Maksat Meredow was honored with the prestigious Yunus Emre Award by the International Union of Turkic Writers. This accolade is bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to literature and the promotion of cultural unity within the Turkic world. The recognition of a Turkmen author at this major international forum underscores the global resonance and artistic value of Turkmenistan’s literary output.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
