Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev Deliver Statements to the Media
Following productive high-level talks at the “Kuksaroy” residence, Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev issued statements to the media, outlining the outcomes of their discussions and future plans for cooperation.
President Mirziyoyev stressed that the Turkmen leader’s current state visit is of historic significance and will not only strengthen the strategic partnership between the two brotherly countries but elevate it to an entirely new level.
The negotiations resulted in a detailed roadmap for joint work across major areas: politics, trade and economy, transport, water–energy cooperation, and cultural-humanitarian ties.
A key priority identified was the expansion of trade and industrial cooperation. The two leaders set a goal to boost bilateral trade to 2 billion USD, building on its near doubling in recent years, which has already surpassed 1 billion USD. A central role in achieving this objective is assigned to the newly launched “Shavat–Dashoguz” border trade zone.
The governments were tasked with preparing concrete proposals to enhance road, rail, and maritime transport links, including expanding the joint use of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
Energy issues also featured prominently: both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen collaboration in electricity supplies, transit, and the implementation of new bilateral energy projects. Cooperation in environmental protection and efficient water management will also be strengthened.
The presidents highlighted growing interregional cooperation. Successful regional forums held in Bukhara and Turkmenabat will be followed soon by a third forum in Khiva, this time with the participation of all regions of both countries.
They also noted that the recent Days of Turkmen Culture in Urgench and Tashkent laid the foundation for further humanitarian rapprochement. Agreements were reached on holding regular concerts, theater tours, youth gatherings, as well as expanding practical cooperation in the healthcare sector.
In closing, the leaders emphasized the progress achieved within the framework of Consultative Meetings of Central Asian and Azerbaijani heads of state. They expressed confidence that the outcomes of the seventh Tashkent summit would foster integration and unity in the region, fully in line with Turkmenistan’s constructive foreign policy.
Both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to dynamic collaboration and achieving breakthrough results for the prosperity of the two brotherly nations.
