On May 26, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, met with the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), Rabab Fatima, in New York. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Minister Meredov reaffirmed Ashgabat's unwavering commitment, in its capacity as co-chair of the Group of Friends of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), to actively champion the strategic interests of these nations and foster practical multilateral frameworks.

The core of the diplomatic dialogue centered on evaluating the practical implementation mechanisms of the historic Avaza Political Declaration and its corresponding Program of Action for 2024–2034. Both parties highlighted these comprehensive documents as a turning point for advancing the socio-economic priorities of landlocked nations and expanding international aid networks aimed at global integration.

The senior diplomats further mapped out the vital functional areas required to bridge transit gaps for LLDCs. They emphasized that future joint efforts will focus extensively on driving the environmental protection agenda, expanding sustainable energy grids, intensifying water diplomacy, accelerating cross-border digitalization, and assisting landlocked states in executing a smooth transition to a circular economy.
