New Residential Complex Opened in Ashgabat in Honor of Defenders of the Fatherland Day
26 Jan. 12:50A new modern residential complex was officially opened in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in celebration of Defenders of the Fatherland Day. The housing project was specifically designed for families of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan and reflects the country’s strong commitment to social welfare.
The newly commissioned phase consists of 56 spacious five-room cottages tailored to the needs of large families. Each house is fully furnished with high-quality modern furniture and equipped with advanced household appliances, allowing residents to move in immediately. Such comprehensive housing solutions have become a hallmark of social development initiatives in Turkmenistan.
A highlight of the ceremony was the revival of traditional Turkmen customs. In the courtyards of the new homes, women baked bread in traditional tamdyr ovens and prepared national delicacies such as chelpek and pishme, enriching the celebration with cultural authenticity.
The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by the melodies of dutar and tar instruments, along with performances by children’s dance groups. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, hundreds of colorful balloons were released into the sky, symbolizing a new beginning for many families across Turkmenistan.
On behalf of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, commemorative gifts were presented to the new homeowners. The celebration concluded with a cultural program featuring an exhibition of traditional handicrafts, including handmade carpets and fine jewelry.
The event culminated with a performance by the “Miras” folklore ensemble, whose rendition of the “Kushtdepdi” dance brought together all participants in a shared spirit of joy, unity, and national pride of Turkmenistan.


Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
