New oil tanker "Dostluk" arrives at Turkmenbashi Port as a symbol of Caspian partnership
28 Jun. 07:04The "Dostluk" (Friendship) oil tanker, officially presented as a diplomatic gift to Turkmenistan by the Republic of Azerbaijan, has arrived at its home port at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. The strategic allocation of the vessel was finalized during the President of Turkmenistan’s official state visit to Azerbaijan. As monitored via the "Watan" national news broadcast, the maritime authority organized a formal welcoming ceremony at the harbor terminal to celebrate the expansion of the country's merchant fleet.
Constructed by the marine engineers at the Baku Shipyard, the modern liquid-cargo vessel serves as an institutional symbol of bilateral regional cooperation between the two Caspian littoral states. The technical layout of the tanker satisfies modern maritime safety and international environmental regulations, rendering it highly efficient for transporting crude oil and specialized refined petroleum products across regional shipping lanes.
During the public reception at the port infrastructure, key transport officials noted that integrating the "Dostluk" tanker into active duty will immediately boost the total cargo turnover capacity of Turkmenistan's national commercial fleet. Industry analysts verify that expanding the domestic tanker infrastructure allows the country to scale up its transit freight volumes and strengthen its standing as a major logistical hub within international East-West energy corridors.

A rye-wheat loaf preserved in a freezer for 36 years has been put on public display as part of the permanent exhibition at the Deutschlandmuseum in Berlin. Dubbed "The Last Loaf of the GDR," it was originally purchased on June 26, 1990, by student Michael Hagedorn, who bought an extra loaf fearing potential food shortages amidst the economic unification of East and West Germany.
The museum's director, Robert Rückel, described the unusual artifact as a unique poignant symbol of everyday human decisions during times of monumental geopolitical change. To maintain its preserved state, the museum installed a custom refrigeration unit where the historical loaf remains permanently frozen for visitors to view.
