The streaming service Netflix has released the first glimpses of its upcoming animated feature "Steps," a fresh take on the Cinderella story that shifts the spotlight to the protagonist’s infamous stepsisters. This highly anticipated project reimagines the traditional fairy tale from a new perspective, focusing on the complex dynamics and hidden stories of the sisters. The animation is scheduled for release in 2026 and features a high-profile voice cast, including Amanda Seyfried in a leading role.
The plot introduces a whimsical twist to the classic narrative: Lilith (voiced by Ali Wong), one of the stepsisters, finds herself wrongfully accused of using magic to sabotage a major royal celebration. In a frantic attempt to clear her name and fix the situation, she accidentally transforms her sister Margo (voiced by Stephanie Hsu) into a frog. To break the spell and save the kingdom from looming chaos, Lilith is forced to form an unlikely alliance with Cinderella herself, turning the traditional rivalry into a cooperative adventure.
Directed by Jon Ripa, known for his work on "Raya and the Last Dragon," and Alice Szu, the film boasts a strong creative team under the production of Amy Poehler. The creators aim to deconstruct the "evil stepsister" trope, giving the characters more depth, agency, and relatable motivations. This shift toward character-driven storytelling reflects a broader trend in animation that seeks to modernize well-known folk tales for a contemporary global audience.
Interestingly, Netflix is not the only studio exploring this specific angle of the Cinderella universe; Disney is also developing a project titled "Stepsisters," directed by Akiva Schaffer. However, Netflix's "Steps" stands out with its distinct visual style and a narrative centered on magic and redemption. As the production moves forward, the early visuals suggest that "Steps" will be a cornerstone of Netflix's animated slate for the 2026 season.


Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
