Modernization of passenger train fleet initiated in Turkmenistan railway sector

Turkmenistan is launching a comprehensive technical overhaul and major repair program for its passenger railcar fleet to strengthen the material and technical foundations of its transport infrastructure. The initiative aligns with national long-term strategies focused on expanding the country's transit and logistical capabilities. The development plans and administrative frameworks for this structural upgrade were reviewed during the latest session of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The ongoing transformation of the railway network involves integrating state-of-the-art technologies that strictly adhere to international maritime and overland transport standards. Current operational strategies emphasize scheduled capital restoration and systemic maintenance of active passenger carriages. These measures are designated to ensure the highest safety guidelines, improve corporate travel culture, and provide enhanced customer service configurations.

To achieve substantial technological advancements, the domestic transport sector actively collaborates with leading global manufacturing brands, particularly premier industrial enterprises from China. High-tech machinery and engineering solutions provided by these international partners are already deeply embedded in the state logistics grid. Future maintenance projects will continue to leverage global expertise to implement scalable asset rehabilitation.

The designated development proposals submitted by the relevant transport authorities received official endorsement from the Head of State. Following this executive approval, the "Demirýollary" Open Joint-Stock Company is authorized to execute the technical deployment phases immediately. The modernization initiative is projected to significantly optimize the efficiency, durability, and operational capacity of passenger rail transport across the country.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
