The leading sources of foreign visitors to Azerbaijan remain Russia (23.2% of the total), Turkey (21.1%), and Iran (9%). These nations consistently top the list due to established travel corridors and shared regional interests. Turkmenistan’s presence in the top 15 highlights the steady flow of people across the Caspian Sea, driven by both leisure tourism and growing bilateral business ties.

Overall, Azerbaijan welcomed a total of 337,300 foreign tourists in the first two months of the year, a slight decrease of 0.4% compared to the same period in 2025. Despite this minor fluctuation in global figures, the specific interest from Central Asian travelers, particularly from Turkmenistan, remains a key component of Azerbaijan's regional tourism strategy.

The proximity of the two nations and the availability of direct transportation links make Azerbaijan a popular destination for Turkmen travelers. Beyond the cultural appeal of Baku, visitors are often drawn to the country's health resorts and international shopping venues. As the 2026 travel season progresses, experts anticipate a further increase in cross-Caspian exchange, bolstered by ongoing diplomatic and economic cooperation between Ashgabat and Baku.
