Italians Spend 25 Years of Their Lives Online as Digital and Physical Realities Blur
24 Jun. 16:30According to a global study conducted by NordVPN across 20 countries, an average resident of Italy spends approximately 25 years, 6 months, and 1 day of their lifetime on the internet. This trend highlights a fundamental shift toward an "onlife" existence—a term coined by philosophers to describe the complete blurring of boundaries between physical and digital realities. The internet is no longer just a functional tool but has evolved into an invisible, permanent infrastructure, with Italians logging nearly 50 hours online every week.
The vast majority of this online time is dedicated to digital entertainment and multimedia consumption. On a weekly basis, Italians average 6 hours and 34 minutes streaming movies and TV shows, followed closely by 4 hours and 20 minutes listening to music. Online video consumption accounts for 4 hours and 19 minutes, while social media platforms occupy 3 hours and 7 minutes of their week, alongside everyday routines like remote work, e-commerce, banking, and public digital services.
A notable emerging component of modern digital life is the use of AI-powered chatbots, to which Italians now dedicate roughly 53 minutes per week. While artificial intelligence tools do not yet rival social media or streaming services in terms of pure screen time, this metric indicates that AI has transitioned from a novel tech trend into a practical daily asset used heavily for translations, text generation, resume writing, and administrative tasks.

New Digital Boundaries: Turkey Implements Strict Social Media Regulations for Minors
10 Oct. 10:05Starting November 1, 2026, Turkey will restrict access to social media platforms for children under the age of 15 following a new regulatory decree issued by the Presidential Cyber Security Directorate and published in the Resmi Gazete. Under the new framework, users aged 15 to 18 will undergo mandatory age verification through the "e-Devlet" portal. Accounts for this age group will feature default private settings, with explicit bans on live streaming, targeted behavioral ads, and profile recommendation algorithms.
Social media networks are also required to provide parents and legal guardians with control tools to monitor usage time, location tracking, and financial transactions. Existing active accounts must complete the age verification process by March 31, 2027.
