The World Gold Council (WGC) has released its latest "Gold Market Prime" report, revealing that the total market value of all gold ever mined globally is now estimated at approximately $31 trillion. By the end of 2025, the cumulative historical production of this precious metal reached nearly 220,000 tonnes. These figures highlight gold's enduring significance as a cornerstone of the global economy and a primary hedge against financial volatility.
Of the total global supply, gold accessible for investment purposes is valued at roughly $15 trillion. This includes $9 trillion held in the form of bars, coins, and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), while central bank reserves account for approximately $5 trillion. An additional $1.5 trillion is tied up in various financial instruments and related derivatives. This concentration of value reflects the strategic importance that both private investors and state institutions place on physical gold assets.
The distribution of gold remains heavily weighted toward the jewelry sector, which accounts for 44% of the total global stock. Private investment in bars and coins represents 21%, followed closely by official central bank holdings at 18%. The remaining portion is utilized in industrial and technological applications, where gold's unique conductivity and anti-corrosive properties are essential for high-tech manufacturing.
Despite its massive scale, analysts point out that gold still occupies a relatively small percentage of total global investment portfolios. This indicates significant room for growth as more investors seek stable assets amid ongoing international economic shifts. As a result, gold continues to serve as the ultimate "safe haven," maintaining its purchasing power and providing a reliable store of value for the global financial community.
