Gas Production at Galkynysh Field Could Reach 200 Billion Cubic Meters per Year

Source

At the international conference “Turkmenistan Oil and Gas – 2025” held in Ashgabat, prospects for the development of the Galkynysh field were presented. According to the data, full development of all planned stages could result in an annual gross gas production of nearly 200 billion cubic meters. This was reported by Irina Luryeva, Doctor of Technical Sciences and head of the Galkynysh field development laboratory at the Turkmengaz Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas.
Currently, pilot industrial operation is underway at the first of seven planned development stages. There are 52 operational wells, 7 wells preparing for commissioning, and 8 wells actively being drilled. The average designed well output is 1.5 million cubic meters per day, while the reservoir’s potential allows sustaining output up to 3 million cubic meters per day.
In 2022, three wells were commissioned that can stably operate at a maximum output of 3 million cubic meters per day. According to forecasts made jointly with experts from GaffneyCline, the period of sustained gas production at each stage will exceed 30 years.
The phased development strategy involves gradual increases in production rates and optimal investment distribution. Plans include launching the second, third, and fourth development stages soon. As geological and field data accumulate, the geological-hydrodynamic model will be updated to assess production efficiency.
Special attention is paid to environmental aspects, including the utilization of acidic gases and CO₂. Options for injecting carbon dioxide into the reservoir’s aquifers and depleted neighboring deposits are being considered to reduce environmental impact.
