Floods in India have claimed the lives of four people, with around 100 reported missing.
In the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, four people have died and around 100 are reported missing as a result of severe flooding. The disaster completely destroyed the village of Dharali.
The catastrophe was triggered by prolonged rainfall, which caused the Khirganga River to overflow. A landslide wiped the entire village off the map, leaving behind tons of mud and rocks.
"Seventy people have been evacuated from the village of Dharali, and efforts are underway to evacuate the rest," said State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The site is currently being assisted by the military, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and disaster response teams.
Among the missing are 11 military personnel. Rescue operations are being hampered by the lack of communication, damaged roads, and flooded areas in the region.
In other northern cities, streets have turned into rivers. Residents have been forced to swim through floodwaters or take shelter on rooftops. The rain continues, and river water levels are rising.
Evacuated residents are being provided with essential aid, and food supplies are being delivered.
