English: Strengthening Regional Ties Between Turkmenistan and Astrakhan Region
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Mammetkhan Chakiyev, held a working meeting with a delegation from Russia’s Astrakhan Region, led by Deputy Governor Denis Afanasyev. The talks were part of the Russian delegation’s official visit to Turkmenistan.
The sides discussed priority areas of regional cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on launching a direct air connection between Astrakhan and Turkmenbashi. According to Denis Afanasyev, this route would significantly contribute to boosting both tourism and business contacts. He confirmed that the Astrakhan airport is fully prepared to accommodate Turkmenistan Airlines on this route.
Another important topic was the development of a logistics hub in Astrakhan Region. The Russian side has already allocated land and signed agreements to support the initiative. The prospects of regular cargo shipping lines between the ports of both regions and joint efforts in shipbuilding were also considered.
Turkmenistan expressed interest in training professionals in maritime and shipbuilding sectors through Astrakhan’s specialized institutions, notably the Caspian Institute of Maritime and Inland Transport.
The parties agreed on the participation of Turkmen companies in the upcoming "North–South Transport Corridor: New Horizons" international forum, to be held in Astrakhan this October.
The meeting coincided with the celebration of Turkmenistan’s Independence Day, with the Astrakhan delegation taking part in the official festivities.
