The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development plans to continue investing in railway and highway construction projects in Turkmenistan.

During a government meeting held on March 20 via digital format, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov presented an update on strengthening cooperation with the bank.

Since joining the institution in 1992, Turkmenistan has implemented over 80 projects aimed at modernizing its financial system, boosting trade and production, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.

Among the key initiatives is the development of a new cooperation strategy for 2026–2030, which is expected to serve as a solid framework for attracting long-term investments into both public and private sector projects. A dedicated working group involving financial and economic authorities is also proposed.

Transport and logistics remain a priority area, with plans to intensify joint efforts in building and upgrading railways and roads. These efforts are expected to align with the European Union’s “Global Gateway” initiative.

Negotiations involving major financial institutions of the country are anticipated in the near future to finalize a concrete action plan. The country’s leadership has endorsed these proposals and instructed to proceed with their implementation.
