Deployment of 5G network in Arkadag City: a technological milestone for Turkmenistan’s first Smart City
29 Jun. 11:12Arkadag City, the first official "smart" and "green" urban development in the history of Turkmenistan, has consolidated its position at the forefront of national digital transformation by fully integrating high-speed fifth-generation (5G) telecommunications technology into its municipal network. This infrastructural achievement demonstrates the city's capacity to align with contemporary global technological innovations. As monitored via the "Watan" national news broadcast, Arkadag serves as a primary model for deploying green technologies, digital economy systems, and sustainable, ecologically sound environments designed for modern citizens.
The technical specifications of the newly deployed 5G network present transformative capabilities for the city's integrated management and IT operations. Delivering data transmission speeds up to 20 gigabits per second, the network allows the concurrent connection of up to one million smart devices per square kilometer. This translates to an operational data velocity that is 20 times faster than existing 4G+ networks. The ubiquitous availability of 5G across Arkadag enables public institutions and private enterprises to optimize administrative governance, manage workflow automation seamlessly, and access digital services instantaneously. The network's high throughput guarantees the smooth execution of resource-heavy software applications and ensures interruption-free connectivity for thousands of endpoints simultaneously.
Within Arkadag's advanced urban framework, 5G technology serves as a key enabler for strategic socio-economic components, including the rapid exchange of educational data, real-time automated machinery control in manufacturing, live television broadcasts in ultra-high-definition 4K format, and high-tech telemedicine consultations. This infrastructure project serves as a prime example of scientific urban planning, illustrating that every dimension of the smart city concept is driven by advanced international trends aimed at continuously improving the standard of living and overall well-being of the population.

On-the-Go Power: Japanese Engineers Develop Wireless In-Road Charging for Electric Vehicles
10 Oct. 08:10In a major leap for electric mobility, Honda R&D, alongside Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec, has unveiled an innovative dynamic wireless charging system that charges electric vehicles as they drive. By embedding compact energy-transmitting modules directly into the road surface, the system transfers power via a magnetic field to receivers mounted underneath moving vehicles. Designed to withstand heavy commercial transport up to 20 tons, real-world road testing is scheduled to begin in Japan in April 2027.
The technology eliminates the need for full road reconstruction, as modules can be integrated directly into milled asphalt layers. Aimed at boosting charging power up to 150 kW in future iterations, this infrastructure solution promise to significantly reduce grid pressure on traditional charging stations, particularly for logistics and commercial fleets.
