The head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, Albir Krganov, has announced the dates for the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram) this year. According to the official statement provided to news agencies, the religious celebrations are scheduled for late May. Based on the lunar sightings, the holiday will officially commence after sunset on May 26.
The Mufti explained that this date corresponds to the tenth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic Hijri calendar. This period also marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. It is anticipated that the festive period will span from May 26 to May 30, allowing believers to observe the traditional rites and prayers.
Eid al-Adha is one of the two most significant festivals in Islam, representing the values of devotion and sacrifice. The holiday commemorates the historical narrative of Prophet Ibrahim and his unwavering faith. In remembrance of the divine intervention where a ram was provided as a sacrifice, Muslims around the world perform the ritual slaughter of livestock to honor this tradition.
Currently, extensive preparations are underway across various regions to welcome the holy days. Eid al-Adha plays a crucial role in fostering social cohesion, generosity, and compassion within the community. During the festivities, it is customary to share sacrificial meat with the less fortunate and strengthen bonds with family and friends.
