During the night of February 13, flooding occurred at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The incident was reported by BFMTV, noting that the museum’s technical teams declared an emergency situation.

The water intrusion affected Room 707, known as “Duchâtel,” which houses artworks dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Preliminary reports indicate that several pieces sustained significant damage. Experts have begun assessing the condition of the affected items to determine the extent of the impact.

The likely cause of the incident is believed to be a malfunctioning pipe located on an upper floor of the building. As a precaution, galleries numbered 706 through 708 have been temporarily closed to visitors.

The Louvre has recently drawn media attention for other reasons as well. In October 2025, the museum was the scene of a major heist: individuals disguised as workers used lifting equipment to gain access and stole jewelry from Napoleon’s collection worth approximately €88 million in just minutes. The stolen items included a necklace, a pendant, and a diadem. The crown of Empress Eugénie was reportedly dropped during the suspects’ escape. It was later revealed that part of the stolen valuables was allegedly offered for sale on the darknet.
