Apple Increases Prices for Previous-Generation iPhone Models Following New Product Launch
10 Sep. 15:35Following the official announcement of the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo flagship models, Apple has updated its pricing structure for previous-generation smartphones on its official online store. Driven by a base price increase of $100 across the new lineup, prices for earlier devices were adjusted upward accordingly.
Under the updated pricing, the iPhone 17e is now listed at $699, while the iPhone 16 retails at $799. Furthermore, the base iPhone 17 is priced at $899, and the iPhone Air model starts at $1,099. As is standard practice, Apple has discontinued official sales of its previous flagships, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, though remaining stock remains available through third-party retailers.
Industry analysts and former Apple CEO Tim Cook had previously anticipated these price adjustments. The primary catalyst behind the rising cost of consumer electronics is a global shortage of memory chips, spurred by the rapidly growing infrastructure demands of artificial intelligence data centers.

On-the-Go Power: Japanese Engineers Develop Wireless In-Road Charging for Electric Vehicles
10 Oct. 08:10In a major leap for electric mobility, Honda R&D, alongside Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec, has unveiled an innovative dynamic wireless charging system that charges electric vehicles as they drive. By embedding compact energy-transmitting modules directly into the road surface, the system transfers power via a magnetic field to receivers mounted underneath moving vehicles. Designed to withstand heavy commercial transport up to 20 tons, real-world road testing is scheduled to begin in Japan in April 2027.
The technology eliminates the need for full road reconstruction, as modules can be integrated directly into milled asphalt layers. Aimed at boosting charging power up to 150 kW in future iterations, this infrastructure solution promise to significantly reduce grid pressure on traditional charging stations, particularly for logistics and commercial fleets.
