A long-lasting phase of geomagnetic disturbances has started on Earth. The phenomenon was triggered by a coronal hole on the Sun that generated a stream of solar wind moving toward our planet. The information was shared by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences through its Telegram channel.

Researchers note that the speed of the solar wind approaching Earth is expected to rise in the coming days. As a result, geomagnetic activity levels may increase. Forecasts suggest that the unstable magnetic conditions could persist until around the middle of April.

Astronomers explain that the main source of these effects is a large coronal hole on the Sun. It stretches from the southern region of the star toward the northern part and has been visible for quite a long time. Last month it drew attention because its shape resembled a dragon-like figure as it rotated along with the solar disk.
