A large-scale nationwide tree planting campaign is scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan on March 21. The decision was announced during a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan chaired by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which was held through a digital communication system.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan continues to implement comprehensive environmental initiatives aimed at transforming the country into a greener and more environmentally sustainable state. Significant efforts are being directed toward creating forest belts, expanding green areas, and ensuring proper care and maintenance of newly planted trees across Turkmenistan.

To support these environmental goals, the President of Turkmenistan signed an official document. This step is connected with the implementation of the presidential resolution issued on February 13, 2026, which outlines the organization of tree planting activities throughout Turkmenistan during 2026.

According to the adopted decision, a nationwide tree planting event will be organized across Turkmenistan on March 21, 2026. The campaign is expected to involve government institutions, public organizations, and citizens from different regions of Turkmenistan.

Relevant ministries and sectoral agencies, along with the administrations of the regions, the city of Ashgabat, and the city of Arkadag, have been instructed to ensure the proper organization of the nationwide event. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to environmental improvement and the expansion of green landscapes in Turkmenistan.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
