UN-Habitat evaluates implementation frameworks for a project office in Turkmenistan's capital
21 May. 12:30On the sidelines of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) officially announced target configurations for deploying a representative sub-station in Ashgabat. Irfan Ali, Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, stated that the agency coordinates urban management logistics across 25 nations and currently operates platforms in Kyiv, Moscow, Baku, and Kosovo. The official expressed confidence that launching the new operational framework in Turkmenistan will progress in the near term.
In his briefing, Irfan Ali highlighted the accelerating velocity of regional urbanization patterns and confirmed that Ashgabat has anchored its structural relevance in the global dialogue on sustainable urban expansion. This declaration materialized directly before a high-level UN-led assembly arranged within the upcoming "My White City Ashgabat – 2026" 25th International Exhibition and Conference. The forum will focus on architectural parameters designed to cultivate inclusive, data-driven "smart-city" environments.
The expansive Ashgabat symposium is projected to host more than 650 delegates representing specialized line ministries, diplomatic missions, and urban engineering organizations from 55 states worldwide. The technical panels will include prominent urban planners, structural engineers, and institutional global financiers. This multi-sectoral interaction is positioned to function as a catalyst for integrating advanced mechanical solutions and channeling foreign direct investment into the country's construction complex.
Katja Schaefer, UN-Habitat Interregional Advisor, and Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, emphasized the structural importance of digital spatial modeling in their analytical notes. The specialists agreed that combining modern building codes, master-planning, and IT architecture will generate an eco-resilient urban matrix in Ashgabat. Implementing these synchronized performance standards aims to advance public living metrics and maximize the accessibility of municipal infrastructure networks.

Financial Disagreements Derail Anticipated Heavyweight Bout Between Usyk and Wilder
Today in 04:59The highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between former undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk and former WBC titleholder Deontay Wilder has officially been canceled. Both camps had initially aimed to stage the blockbuster bout in the spring of 2027, generating immense excitement among boxing enthusiasts worldwide. However, negotiations between the prominent boxing stars ultimately collapsed behind closed doors.
According to prominent sports journalist Mike Coppinger and insider sources, the breakdown in talks stemmed directly from unresolved financial disputes and disagreements over purse splits. Negotiations were reportedly halted roughly three weeks ago after both sides failed to reach a mutually beneficial commercial agreement. As a result, the Ukrainian champion is currently left without a scheduled opponent, and his promotional team is not actively engaged in talks for an alternative match.
Meanwhile, rumors have surfaced regarding Deontay Wilder's potential next steps inside the squared circle. Reports indicate that Wilder has reached out to cruiserweight standout Jai Opetaia, attempting to entice him into a December 11 fight card. Speculation suggests Wilder hopes to position this high-profile matchup as a co-feature ahead of the eagerly awaited heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
