Turkmenistan’s Cultural Workers and Magtymguly Pyragy Poetry Day Celebrated in Kyiv

The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine hosted a sequence of commemorative events in Kyiv to mark the Day of Workers of Culture and Art of Turkmenistan, alongside the Poetry Day of the great Eastern thinker and classic poet, Magtymguly Pyragy. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the official program initiated with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Magtymguly Pyragy monument in Kyiv. The tribute brought together officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, members of the foreign diplomatic corps, prominent scholars, creative figures, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora, and university students.

The celebrations continued with an official diplomatic reception at the Embassy of Turkmenistan. Addressing the guests, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Ukraine, Toyly Atayev, highlighted that the country is systematically driving forward toward the historic 35th anniversary of its state Independence, emphasizing that preserving and globalizing national cultural heritage remains a cornerstone of state policy. The Ambassador uniquely singled out the inclusion of Magtymguly’s poetic manuscripts into UNESCO’s "Memory of the World" International Register. Concurrently, Pavlo Movchan, Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Prosvita Society and a two-time recipient of the "Magtymguly Pyragy" medal, delivered an inspiring speech on the humanitarian dimensions of the poet's legacy. The cultural framework of the evening featured poetry recitations in both Turkmen and Ukrainian, live performances on the traditional dutar and gyjak instruments, and a comprehensive book exhibition showcasing the poet's world-famous masterpieces.

















Turkmenistan Develops Bio-Agent to Neutralize Methane Emissions

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
