A high-level event organized by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in collaboration with the Embassy of Azerbaijan was held on May 5 at the Kabul Grand Hotel. The meeting served as a precursor to the upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku, bringing together heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the Afghan capital. Turkmenistan actively participated in the dialogue, presenting its strategic vision for future urban environments.

Ambassador of Turkmenistan Khoja Ovezov addressed the participants, focusing on the country’s dynamic partnership with UN-Habitat. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s ongoing initiatives aimed at developing robust urban infrastructure and fostering environmentally sustainable urban communities. The Ambassador emphasized that the nation’s urban planning strategy is built upon the integration of global standards and innovative solutions to ensure the highest quality of life for its citizens.

The highlight of the event was a detailed presentation of Arkadag City, Turkmenistan’s pioneering "smart" city project. The audience learned about the city’s sophisticated digital infrastructure and the widespread adoption of "green" technologies in its public services. Arkadag was showcased as a model for modern urban living, where smart management systems and eco-friendly practices work in tandem to create a resilient and technologically advanced urban center.

The presentation was complemented by a photography exhibition and a video screening that provided a visual overview of Arkadag’s unique architecture and advanced amenities. International delegates expressed significant interest in the Turkmen experience of building a city from the ground up using 21st-century technology. This presentation in Kabul effectively positioned Turkmenistan as a regional leader in smart urban development ahead of the global discussions scheduled to take place in Baku later this month.
