During the 82nd session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) held in Bangkok, the delegation of Turkmenistan actively contributed to key thematic debates on regional stability and economic growth. The nation presented its strategic vision for addressing contemporary global challenges through enhanced multilateral cooperation. The forum served as a platform for harmonizing regional policies with the broader United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda.

A pivotal event during the session was the ministerial meeting of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), which culminated in the adoption of a Joint Statement. Ministers focused on the institutional evolution of SPECA, aiming to streamline cooperation frameworks up to 2030. Turkmenistan highlighted that the intensive groundwork laid in previous years has created a solid foundation for transitioning to the implementation of large-scale, cross-border infrastructure projects.

The discussions emphasized the critical role of multimodal transport connectivity and trade facilitation in increasing the region's investment appeal. Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting projects financed through the SPECA Multi-Partner Trust Fund, aimed at promoting inclusive economic development. The integration of advanced digital solutions into regional trade and transit operations was identified as a priority for enhancing operational efficiency across the member states.

The Turkmen delegation also brought significant attention to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s environmental initiatives, specifically focusing on climate resilience. A key proposal discussed was the establishment of a Regional Center for Technologies related to Climate Change in Ashgabat, intended to operate as a specialized ESCAP institution. Looking ahead, the Commission decided to convene its 83rd session in Shanghai, China, in April 2027 to continue this intergovernmental dialogue.
