Turkmenistan approves National Carpet Day events schedule

During the recent government meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nokerguly Atagulyýev detailed the operational timeline and events scheduled for the National Carpet Day, which will be celebrated on May 31, 2026. The conceptual framework of the upcoming events is structured to emphasize the global significance of Turkmenistan's traditional weaving arts and to facilitate commercial partnerships within the textile sector.

The official agenda features a comprehensive exhibition of handmade carpets alongside the XXVI Session of the World Association of Turkmen Carpet Connoisseurs. This international summit is anticipated to host global research scholars, cultural historians, industry experts, and corporate representatives from foreign textile firms. The sessions will focus on integrating traditional manufacturing styles into modern supply chains and preserving ancestral designs.

A significant highlight of the celebration will take place at the National Museum of Turkmen Carpet, which has been designated to host a state honors ceremony. In recognition of their dedication to maintaining historic weaving techniques, exceptional female weavers will be formally decorated with the state title of "Honored Carpet Weaver of Turkmenistan." The selection process highlights the government's ongoing support for artisanal industries.

Additionally, academic forums under the titles "Arşyň nepisligi" and "Janly rowaýat" will be launched in Ashgabat to discuss technical innovations and structural preservation methods in textile production. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reviewed the ministerial brief and underlined the importance of high-level administrative oversight. The Head of State subsequently issued precise instructions to the Deputy Prime Minister to ensure all programmatic goals are successfully met.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
