The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the official lineup and entry stages for the 2026/27 club competition season. Turkmenistan will be represented by its two most prominent clubs: the national champion, FC Arkadag, and the runner-up, FC Ahal. This participation marks a significant step for Turkmen football as it seeks to demonstrate its competitive growth on the international stage.

FC Arkadag is slated to begin its journey in the AFC Champions League 2, the continent’s second-tier prestigious tournament. Led by head coach Vladimir Bayramov, the team will enter the competition through the play-off stage. A victory in the play-offs will secure their place in the group stage of the Champions League 2. However, should they fall short in the qualifiers, they will remain in continental action by moving to the group stage of the AFC Challenge League.

FC Ahal, which secured the silver medal in the 2025 Higher League of Turkmenistan, has earned a direct qualification for the group stage of the AFC Challenge League. This direct entry allows the team to bypass the preliminary rounds and focus their strategic preparations on the main phase of the competition, facing other top clubs from across the region.

The participation of these two clubs in the AFC’s restructured tournament format is expected to draw significant attention from football enthusiasts in Turkmenistan.
