China has remained Turkmenistan's largest trade and economic partner for many years. According to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, in his interview with the Chinese "CGTN" channel, trade turnover between the two nations has increased 20-fold since 2007. Currently, the annual volume of bilateral trade amounts to approximately 9–10 billion US dollars, highlighting the dynamic growth and strategic importance of their economic relationship.

The cooperation between Ashgabat and Beijing spans various critical sectors, including energy, communications, high technology, the textile industry, and the agro-industrial complex. Transport and infrastructure projects have emerged as key pillars of this multifaceted partnership. The National Leader pointed out that nearly 90 percent of the wagons and locomotives currently operating on Turkmenistan's railways were manufactured in China, serving as a clear example of successful industrial collaboration.

Logistics remains a vital area of growth, with both countries working together to develop transit corridors. In 2014, a railway network spanning over 750 kilometers was commissioned, connecting China and Turkmenistan through neighboring territories. Furthermore, recent years have seen a significant increase in the procurement of Chinese vehicles, particularly buses, which are widely used across the country. This trend reflects the reliability and competitiveness of Chinese products in the Turkmen market.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty expressed confidence in the potential to integrate the two countries' logistics capabilities to enhance trade communications across the Caspian Sea, reaching the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean terminals. By aligning their interests in developing East-West transit routes, Turkmenistan and China aim to foster regional connectivity. Such a strategic alliance is expected to yield long-term benefits for Eurasian trade, contributing to sustainable development and economic stability across the region.
