TCOR to launch specialized petrochemical unit to increase high-value export volumes
27 Jun. 11:54The primary manufacturing hub of the national oil and gas sector is positioned to deploy a new chemical production line. During a recent digital session of the Cabinet of Ministers, Vice-Premier G. Agajanov outlined an institutional strategy focused on diversifying the refining systems at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries (TCOR). The extensive engineering research for this upgrade is currently being managed by the "Turkmennebit" State Concern.
The technical development roadmap involves integrating automated software structures and advanced industrial hardware into the active infrastructure of the processing complex. The overarching goal of the initiative is to establish an agile manufacturing ecosystem capable of synthesizing advanced petrochemical compounds. This strategic deployment is structured to fulfill long-term economic blueprints prioritizing high-value resource optimization within the country.
From a trade perspective, the upcoming unit is designed to accelerate import substitution initiatives by replacing high-cost international chemical supplies with stable domestic alternatives. These new corporate product configurations are projected to display strong competitive metrics across regional markets and global commodity exchanges. The final legislative drafts and architectural outlines were formally presented to the head of state for executive approval.
After analyzing the industrial report, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the systematic optimization of domestic hydrocarbon processing lines remains a core economic priority. The Head of State formally approved the development blueprint for the new facility at the TCOR and directed the Vice-Premier to manage the technical execution of the project. The executive branch highlighted that maintaining strict compliance with modern environmental and safety thresholds is required throughout construction.


Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
