As part of his working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a high-level plenary session of the UN General Assembly, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. The event, held at the UN headquarters, brought together world leaders and international delegates, TDH reports.

The session opened with musical performances by the "Sing for Hope" choir, the Metropolitan Opera Choir, and pianist David Watkins. UNGA President Annalena Baerbock gave a welcoming speech, followed by a short film showcasing the history and mission of the UN. UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other prominent political and public figures delivered speeches emphasizing the UN's critical role in promoting peace, sustainable development, and human rights.

Turkmenistan, the first country whose neutrality has been recognized three times by the UN General Assembly, places great emphasis on building global trust and cooperation. Resolutions initiated by Ashgabat, such as “2023 – International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace” and “2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust,” reflect the country’s commitment to global security and diplomacy.

The coincidence of the UN’s 80th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality highlights the deep connection between the organization’s mission and Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, which is rooted in peace, dialogue, and equal partnership.
