Space researchers have provided clarity on why manned missions to Venus are considered highly unlikely in the future. Experts emphasize that the environmental conditions on Venus are so hostile that they defy the limits of current and foreseeable human technology. Unlike Mars, which presents a challenging but manageable environment, Venus acts as a natural furnace that would incinerate any life form or machinery within moments.
The primary deterrent is the planet's surface temperature, which averages around 480°C due to a runaway greenhouse effect. Combined with an atmospheric pressure 90 times greater than that of Earth, the surface of Venus is effectively a high-pressure cooker. Any spacecraft landing there would need to withstand forces equivalent to being nearly a kilometer underwater while simultaneously resisting extreme heat.
The Venusian atmosphere is equally lethal, composed almost entirely of carbon dioxide with clouds of sulfuric acid. While some scientists point to a "temperate zone" about 60 kilometers above the surface where temperatures drop to between 40°C and 60°C, the overall toxicity remains a barrier. Previous reports regarding the discovery of phosphine—a potential biosignature—in the atmosphere are still being debated and have not been definitively confirmed as evidence of life.
Consequently, scientific exploration of Venus will likely remain the domain of specialized robotic probes rather than human astronauts. The combination of corrosive acid rain, crushing pressure, and searing heat makes Venus the most inhospitable terrestrial planet in our solar system, securing its status as a destination beyond human reach.
