According to the results of 2025, Samsung secured the top position in Japan’s Android smartphone retail market. The conclusion is based on data collected from checkout systems of major electronics chains and analytical reports from the country’s largest online retailers.

For many years, Sony dominated Japan’s Android segment, but its market position has gradually weakened. After losing ground to Google and Samsung, Sony eventually fell behind entirely, allowing Samsung to claim first place among Android manufacturers in 2025. Samsung’s success is largely attributed to its diverse product lineup covering multiple price categories and meeting the expectations of Japanese consumers.

Strong sales were recorded in the budget and mid-range segments, led by the Galaxy A25 and Galaxy A36. Flagship devices such as the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24 FE remained in high demand, while the newly introduced Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Ultra quickly became bestsellers. Foldable smartphones also gained popularity, particularly the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and 7, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and 7.

Despite Samsung’s leadership in the Android category, Apple continues to dominate Japan’s overall smartphone market, accounting for more than 60 percent of total sales. These global market trends are closely monitored in regions such as Turkmenistan, where international technology developments influence local consumer preferences.
