The Ministries of Culture of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation are developing a joint cultural and educational project dedicated to the civilization of ancient Margiana. This was officially announced by the Ambassador of Russia, Ivan Volynkin. The international event is designed to showcase the results of unique excavations to the global community, which have been recognized as one of the most significant discoveries in global archaeology over the past century.

The A.S. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow has been provisionally selected as the primary Russian venue for displaying these ancient artifacts. The core of the exhibition will feature unique items discovered during the excavations of Gonur Depe—the largest urban settlement of the ancient Margiana state, which flourished between the 23rd and 15th centuries BCE. The organizers plan to reconstruct a comprehensive picture of the daily life and culture of this lost civilization, which ranks alongside Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China in historical significance.

The collection of the upcoming exhibition will include highly valuable exhibits currently distributed among the funds of the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan and the Mary Velayat History and Local Lore Museum. Among the discoveries available for integration into the exhibition halls are highly artistic jewelry made of precious metals, as well as household and cult objects crafted from stone, bone, and bronze. All these rarities were recovered and cataloged during decades of joint expeditions.

The diplomatic mission emphasizes that this exhibition project is a natural continuation of the half-century scientific and research partnership between the two nations. Over decades of collaboration, Russian and Turkmen specialists have conducted fundamental research not only at Gonur Depe but also at iconic sites such as the early agricultural settlement of Ilgynly Depe and the monuments of Old Nisa. The upcoming exhibition aims to strengthen bilateral academic ties and popularize the region's rich historical heritage on an international level.
