Rajendra Dawadi, a school principal in Nepal's Nuwakot district, successfully evacuated nearly 900 students to safety after acting immediately on early flood warnings. Upon receiving urgent alerts from a student's parent and a colleague near the Trishuli River, Dawadi ordered an instant evacuation to higher ground and contacted school bus drivers to turn back incoming pupils. His decisive actions prevented a potential catastrophe for the school community.
The evacuation occurred amid devastating regional flooding across Nepal and China, which has claimed over 1,000 lives and left thousands missing. Among those unaccounted for are two school staff members who remained behind, as well as hundreds of workers trapped near damaged hydroelectric facilities along the border. Emergency teams continue wide-scale search and rescue operations in the affected regions.

A rye-wheat loaf preserved in a freezer for 36 years has been put on public display as part of the permanent exhibition at the Deutschlandmuseum in Berlin. Dubbed "The Last Loaf of the GDR," it was originally purchased on June 26, 1990, by student Michael Hagedorn, who bought an extra loaf fearing potential food shortages amidst the economic unification of East and West Germany.
The museum's director, Robert Rückel, described the unusual artifact as a unique poignant symbol of everyday human decisions during times of monumental geopolitical change. To maintain its preserved state, the museum installed a custom refrigeration unit where the historical loaf remains permanently frozen for visitors to view.
