President of Turkmenistan Extends Condolences to the Emir of Qatar Following Gas Plant Explosion
25 Jun. 02:20The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, has sent an official message of condolence to the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The diplomatic correspondence follows a devastating explosion at a natural gas processing facility located within the Ras Laffan Industrial City, which resulted in corporate casualties, human fatalities, and numerous injuries. The dispatch of the presidential condolence letter was formally announced by the "Watan" evening news broadcast.
During this challenging period, the Head of State, acting on behalf of the people and Government of Turkmenistan as well as in his own right, extended profound sympathy and solidarity to the leadership and citizens of Qatar. In his message, President Berdimuhamedov conveyed heartfelt condolences and comforting thoughts to the families and relatives of the victims, while offering earnest wishes for a rapid recovery and physical endurance to all those individuals injured and affected by the industrial disaster.

The parliamentary vote to elect the head of state took place on August 20, 2026. Following the count, candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir secured a decisive victory with 255 votes from lawmakers, while his competitor Oli Ahmed received 88 votes.
