President of Turkmenistan arrives in China to attend SCO Summit
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has arrived in the People’s Republic of China on a working visit to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, held in Tianjin on August 31 – September 1, 2025.
The aircraft carrying the Turkmen leader landed at Tianjin International Airport, where he was welcomed by Chinese officials and members of the Turkmen delegation. The visit is being carried out at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, with the Turkmen leader taking part in the summit as an honorary guest.
As part of the trip, President Berdimuhamedov will also attend the ceremonies dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War.
Observers note that Turkmenistan’s participation in the SCO Summit at such a high level reaffirms the country’s commitment to a policy of multi-vector cooperation, firmly based on the principles of positive neutrality. Turkmenistan actively engages with SCO member states and partners in areas such as economy, energy, transportation, regional security, and sustainable development.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established in 2001. Its current members include China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus. While Turkmenistan, as a neutral state, is not a member of the SCO, it consistently takes part in the organization’s summits as an honorary guest.
