16 May. 17:05The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan has departed for an official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, following an invitation from the Duke of Edinburgh. This mission is designed to enhance diplomatic engagement and broaden the scope of strategic cooperation between the two nations. High-ranking government officials and representatives from the People's Council participated in the official departure ceremony held at the "Maslahat" Palace.
The partnership between Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom is built on a robust framework established in 1992 following the formal initiation of diplomatic ties. Britain has consistently demonstrated its support for Turkmenistan’s foreign policy initiatives, specifically endorsing the nation’s status of Permanent Neutrality as recognized by the UN General Assembly in December 1995. This high-level visit reaffirms the mutual commitment to maintaining regional stability and fostering sustainable economic growth through bilateral dialogue.
Following the transcontinental flight, the National Leader of the Turkmen People arrived at London’s international airport, where he was received by British officials. The visit's agenda includes high-level discussions aimed at exploring new avenues for collaboration in sectors such as energy, education, and innovative technologies. This engagement reflects Turkmenistan's proactive approach to international diplomacy and its desire to strengthen ties with major global powers.
Political experts suggest that this visit marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Turkmen-British relations, potentially paving the way for substantial investment projects and cultural exchange programs. By engaging with key international partners at the highest level, Turkmenistan continues to demonstrate the effectiveness of its neutral and peaceful foreign policy in navigating complex global dynamics.

A rye-wheat loaf preserved in a freezer for 36 years has been put on public display as part of the permanent exhibition at the Deutschlandmuseum in Berlin. Dubbed "The Last Loaf of the GDR," it was originally purchased on June 26, 1990, by student Michael Hagedorn, who bought an extra loaf fearing potential food shortages amidst the economic unification of East and West Germany.
The museum's director, Robert Rückel, described the unusual artifact as a unique poignant symbol of everyday human decisions during times of monumental geopolitical change. To maintain its preserved state, the museum installed a custom refrigeration unit where the historical loaf remains permanently frozen for visitors to view.
