Munich Deactivates Fountains and Suspends Window Washing Due to Severe Water Scarcity
05 Jul. 13:38The municipal authorities of Munich have officially introduced an emergency framework of water conservation protocols, triggered by persistent anomalous heatwaves and a subsequent depletion of regional freshwater resources. Under the approved city guidelines, select public fountains will be completely deactivated, while the daily operational schedules for remaining water structures will be substantially scaled back. Concurrently, public utility offices have temporarily suspended non-essential commercial maintenance routines, including the automated and manual washing of facility windows.
According to the official structural directive issued by the municipality, out of 150 functional urban fountains across Munich, 10 units will be disconnected from the main grid immediately. For 56 other designated fountain complexes, daily operations will be restricted from the conventional 14 hours down to 10 hours per day. The temporary moratorium on glass facade cleaning tasks is strategically intended to lower the daily volumetric draw on the city's centralized drinking water reserves.
The Deputy Mayor of Munich, Dominik Krause, officially confirmed the creation of a dedicated multi-agency task force to manage the expanding water supply crisis. In his press address, the municipal chair explicitly stated that the Bavarian capital is currently "confronting an unprecedented environmental scenario that has not been observed in the municipality since the 1970s." The newly formed council will perform continuous data reviews of groundwater levels and oversee municipal usage parameters.
City administrators have issued formal advisories urging local residents to minimize domestic water consumption metrics by avoiding home vehicle washing, replacing full baths with shorter showers, and refraining from filling inflatable children’s pools. At the current operational phase, these measures remain strictly advisory for the general public. However, municipal executives openly noted that if regional hydrological conditions fail to stabilize, the enforcement of mandatory statutory restrictions will not be ruled out.
During the ongoing summer season, a series of European nations, including France, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany, have confronted devastating high-temperature climate pressures. According to verified health statistics released by the World Health Organization (WHO), over 1,300 heat-related fatalities have been officially documented across Europe since June 21. This mortality tracking underscores the severe impact of contemporary macro-climatic shifts on human health and public safety.

Seismic First: Scientists Officially Confirm Natural Earthquakes in Lithuania
10 Oct. 10:55The Geological Survey of Lithuania, supported by seismologists from the University of Helsinki, has officially confirmed the occurrence of natural tectonic earthquakes within the country’s borders for the first time. The seismic events, measuring 2.4 and 2.7 on the magnitude scale, occurred in western Lithuania near the Gargždai fault zone in December 2025. Furthermore, updated analysis of international seismic data allowed experts to reclassify a previously ambiguous 2015 tremor as a natural earthquake rather than human-induced activity.
Although the low-intensity quakes caused no structural damage or casualties, they mark the first instrumentally verified natural tectonic events recorded in modern Lithuanian history.
