The global film industry has registered a historic box office milestone as "Michael," the biographical drama chronicling the life and artistic legacy of the King of Pop, officially became the highest-grossing biopic in cinematic history. According to a report by Variety, the film’s global box office revenue reached an astonishing $977 million by late June 2026. With these numbers, the picture successfully surpassed the previous lifetime record held by Christopher Nolan’s 2023 Oscar-winning masterpiece "Oppenheimer," which concluded its theatrical run at $975 million.

In addition to leading the general biographical genre, the movie established a definitive record within the musical biopic category, comfortably outperforming the 2018 Queen biography "Bohemian Rhapsody," which amassed $911 million during its cycle. The film's commercial momentum was evident during its opening weekend, securing a record-breaking $97 million domestically in the United States and $217 million worldwide. As of the evening of June 28, international markets generated $607.2 million of the total gross, while domestic theaters accounted for a robust $370.2 million.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the cinematic narrative meticulously traces Michael Jackson’s evolution from his early developmental years with the Jackson 5 to his transformation into a global cultural icon. The titular role was performed by the singer’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, marking a highly praised feature film acting debut. The project was co-produced by Lionsgate, GK Films, and Optimum Productions. Following this exceptional commercial performance, industry sources indicate that Lionsgate is already exploring development strategies for at least one additional feature film expanding upon Jackson's life.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
