The Japanese government has officially decided to increase visa application fees for foreign nationals fivefold. According to media reports, this regulatory adjustment comes in response to rising domestic inflation and the depreciation of the Japanese yen. Notably, this decision marks the country's first consular tariff increase since 1978.

The newly adjusted pricing structure will officially take effect at the beginning of July this year. Under the updated regulations, the fee for a single-entry visa will rise from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen (approximately 93 dollars), while multiple-entry visa processing costs will increase from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen (approximately 186 dollars). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan indicated that the policy change is not expected to significantly disrupt overall tourism influx trends.

Aviation and diplomatic experts note that the updated Japanese visa pricing will align with the entry fees typically charged by other Group of Seven (G7) nations. The implementation of these new financial measures is designed to optimize consular administrative cost-recovery amid shifting macroeconomic conditions.
