An unidentified player in the U.S. state of Florida has won an $800 million jackpot in the Mega Millions lottery. According to the New York Post, this represents the largest lottery payout of the current year and the tenth-largest jackpot in the game's history.

The identity of the winning ticket holder remains unknown. The winner has the option to receive the full $800 million annuity paid out over several decades or opt for a lump-sum cash payout of $344,2 million before taxes. Winners predominantly select the one-time cash option, which, following required tax withholdings, leaves an estimated net total of $261.6 million.

The absolute record in Mega Millions history occurred in August 2023, when a winning ticket sold in Florida claimed a historic $1.62 billion jackpot.
