High-Level Ashgabat Dialogue Evaluates Key Milestones for Turkmenistan’s WTO Accession
19 May. 15:36A strategic diplomatic meeting took place today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, and the Director of the Accessions Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Maika Oshikawa. The structural consultations focused on determining the subsequent operational metrics and technical alignment required for the country’s full integration into the multilateral global trading framework.
The executive interinstitutional talks encompassed a broad evaluation of regional and international trade-economic parameters. Special emphasis was placed on the systematic modernization of the national statutory database, legislative harmonizations, and the structural adjustment of domestic economic regulations to align with strict global compliance and institutional benchmarks.
As part of the WTO director's official working itinerary in the capital, dedicated interactive sessions are scheduled with members of the specialized Government Commission tasked with managing the accession processes. These technical workshops are designed to review specific sector-by-sector strategies, optimize tariff-rate quota management, and ensure a smooth transition for domestic industries into competitive international markets.

Facing a record drop in fertility rates, Singapore is significantly expanding its family support framework. According to Bloomberg, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced increases in direct financial assistance alongside enhanced housing benefits for young families.
Under the updated policy, every Singaporean child up to the age of 17 will be eligible to receive up to 70,000 Singapore dollars (approximately $55,000 USD) in total support, which includes cash payouts, educational grants, and related benefits. The government is also expanding paid parental leave and capping monthly out-of-pocket costs for government-subsidized childcare at 150 Singapore dollars.
These interventions aim to reverse a severe demographic decline, marked by last year's fertility rate drop to 0.87 children per woman, while over 20% of the country's population is currently aged 65 or older.
