In a significant reshuffle of the Georgian executive branch, Foreign Minister Maka Bocharishvili has been appointed as Vice Prime Minister. While taking on these new responsibilities, she will also retain her current position as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced this decision during a press conference, highlighting the strategic importance of integrating diplomatic leadership into the core of government operations.

The Prime Minister specified that with Bocharishvili’s appointment, the government would now have a total of three Vice Prime Ministers. This structural expansion is intended to streamline executive coordination and strengthen the oversight of key national priorities. Bocharishvili, a career diplomat with extensive experience, is expected to bring a heightened level of strategic alignment to Georgia's international agenda from her new elevated position.

Additionally, Kobakhidze introduced Mamuka Mdinaradze as another candidate for the role of Vice Prime Minister. Mdinaradze will transition from his leadership role in the State Security Service to become the State Minister for the Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies. This new ministerial office is expected to be formally established and staffed once the necessary legal framework is ratified by the Georgian Parliament.

Until recently, the Georgian cabinet operated with only one Vice Prime Minister, a position held by Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani. These current appointments mark a broader effort by the administration to decentralize high-level decision-making and enhance institutional stability. The expanded team of Vice Prime Ministers will focus on addressing both domestic security and international relations challenges in an increasingly complex regional environment.
