French Ambassador: Nearly 20,000 Turkmen Students are Learning French
15 Jul. 10:42Cultural and educational ties between Turkmenistan and France continue to expand. Yesterday, on July 14, during an official reception in Ashgabat celebrating the National Day of the French Republic (Bastille Day), the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Turkmenistan, Philippe Merlin, announced that approximately 20,000 Turkmen school children and university students are currently learning the French language.
This large-scale educational initiative is successfully carried out with the active support of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the French Institute in Turkmenistan (IFT). According to the Ambassador, language training is integrated through close cooperation with Turkmen academic institutions, paving the way for numerous joint cultural, scientific, and educational projects.
Ambassador Philippe Merlin emphasized that France remains dedicated to promoting the French language and expanding bilateral educational frameworks in Turkmenistan. This sustained partnership continues to offer valuable academic opportunities to Turkmen youth while reinforcing the cross-cultural bond between the two nations.

24 Aug. 18:38Turkmenistan has officially concluded its admission campaign for higher and secondary vocational educational institutions for the 2026–2027 academic year. Held between July 13 and August 24, 2026, the examination process was conducted under state commission oversight and public supervision. Notably, entrance exams at the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University and the International University of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs were administered using a standardized testing format.
Following the examination results, over 18,000 applicants were admitted to higher education institutions. Under the newly implemented "Strategy for the Development of Higher Professional Education in Turkmenistan for 2026–2052," several new academic tracks were established across specialist, bachelor's, and master's degree levels, aligning with the "Atlas of Future Professions." Priority admission status was granted to international competition winners, top athletes, and high school medalists.
